Figure Four: When It's All Said and Done
By Jerrod Fehr, Grade 12, Garden Valley Collegiate, Winkler, MB

Figure FourFigure Four are known as Winnipeg heavyweights. Their new CD "When It's All Said and Done" pretty much tells you why they are known as heavyweights.

If you haven't heard Figure Four before, you don't know what you're missing. They play a hardcore straight-edge type of music that will knock your teeth out. With the use of two guitars, a bass guitar, a set of drums and an amazing screamer, these guys are known as heavyweights. You can call it screaming or you can call it yelling. Whatever you call it, Andrew (lead vocals) does it like no other. His style of screaming is amazing and is loved by all hardcore fans out there. It's something you have to hear and see to believe it.

In my opinion, Figure Four's songs are very original. Although they sort of sound like other groups out there, they still have their own unique style. What makes them so unique are their amazing lyrics. They have very intense Christian lyrics. If you listen to their lyrics, you will realize these are very good lyrics and can affect your life if you take them seriously.

The purpose of the album is to preach the word of God in a hardcore entertainment way. With good crazy breakdowns, they sound good the way they play. And they sound really good when they play their songs live.

Figure Four isn't a really big-name band. But, if you love hardcore, chances are that you've heard of Figure Four. They've played with bigger-name bands, like Hatebreed, but they still are not that well known. Of all of the hardcore groups in Canada, I think, they are the best by far.

The CD liner for "When It's All Said and Done" has a good appearance. The booklet has lyrics for all of the songs, good pictures of the singers and their fans, and a special "Thanx" section.

I love the way Figure Four sounds. They have an amazing talent and that is one of the strengths of this CD. Another strength is the quality of the recording. It sounds good and has some cool effects. It does seem that some of the songs flow together too much. The sound is good, but the way it's edited it just flows too much. While Andrew's voice is a little high, it is still amazing and it sounds better than on the group's earlier CD.

Overall, this CD is worth buying and I give it 4 out of 5 stars. If you want a good hardcore CD, this is the one you want.
