First Main Grad Event a Huge Success
By Farah Kurji, SNN Editor, Hugh Boyd Secondary, Richmond, BC

Hugh Boyd Secondary's Grads of 2003 hosted the First Annual Senior Ball for students in grades 11 and 12 in hopes to not only raise money for future grad events but to also bring the two grades together.

"It was nice that we, the grade elevens were also invited. It was fun for us to get dressed up and come to an event that was not like a school dance," said a grade eleven student.

The Ball, organized by the 2003 Grad Committee was a huge success. The Bread Garden catered the event, which was complete with tons of yummy appetizers and desserts. A DJ took requests all night so that the grads could kick back after a stressful first-term and "bust a move."

"It was really exciting to attend the Senior Ball. I think it's great that our grad class has started this tradition. The food and music was great and it was nice to kick back after being so stressed out about averages and marks for early acceptance to colleges and universities," commented one grade twelve Senior Ball "Goer."

Like students all across Canada, graduating students at Hugh Boyd host many events in an effort to raise funds for their Graduation. This event gave the Grad Committee practice in organizing events. The grads still have to plan several fundraisers, Winter Formal, the Fashion Show, Boat Cruise and of course the Grad Dinner and Dance. With a ton of experience behind them, the Grad Committee is looking forward to even more successful events.
