The Unbreakable Bond: Friendship
By: Kristel Brown, level II student, Roncalli Central High School, Port Saunders, NF

When people bond with one another they eventually produce a relationship that grows into an unbreakable friendship. Friends are like guardian angels sent from heaven willing to help, guide and protect others.

In every situation friends are there to lend a helping hand, dry your tears, or pick you up when you fall down. However, friendships do not only work one way but two ways. A poem entitled "If One Day", is how Karen Buhler 18, of Manitoba, describes the relationship she shares with many of her friends:

If one day you feel like crying, call me.
I don't promise that I will make you laugh, but I can cry with you.
If one day you want to run away, don't be afraid to call me.
I don't promise to ask you to stop but I can run with you.
If one day you don't want to listen anymore, call me.
I promise to be there for you. And I promise to be very quiet.
But if one day you call, and there is no answer, come fast to see me.
Perhaps I need you.

This poem describes the commitment, loyalty, love and trust that can be shared between individuals.

Having a guardian angel or friend is a gift, but having a circle of friends is a blessing. When you have a group of people who are willing to be there for you in any situation, it is easier to face the many winding roads life may bring you on. Laura Gould, 15, of Newfoundland said, "It's more fun and enjoyable when I am together with all my friends. We always find something to do or laugh at. Each moment we spend together we create special memories that will last a lifetime."

Charlene Coles, 23, of British Columbia said her friends were always there for her in good times and bad times. She also said, "It is important for me to have a lot of friends, I always have room for anyone, no matter what the circumstances may be. There are going to be times when friendship may be put on trial, whether it be boys, school, etc, but a true friend stands by you no matter what." As Charlene said, a true friend stands by you no matter what. They hold your hand, and look at the positive things you have to offer.

If you share a relationship with people who are so important to you that you consider them angels, consider yourself lucky. There are countless individuals in the world waiting for someone to spread their wings and share the love and care a friendship awards.
